Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla commonly known as Rear Admiral Ogalla was born on the 20th of December 1968 in Igbo-Eze North LGA, Enugu State, Nigeria. He attended NMS Zaria, where he obtained his WAEC result and also graduated as the “Best Boy” in sciences.

Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla holds a BSc in Mathematics and was awarded the Sword of Honour as the best naval cadet in his course. He went to the National Hydrographic School India, where he completed the STC NNS QUORRA Junior and Senior Staff Courses. He also holds an MSc in Strategic Studies from the University of Ibadan.

Rear Admiral Ogalla Career

Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla was commissioned as Lt in 1992 and he rose to become a Rear Admiral in 2021. He has served several ships including ARADU, AAMBE, LANA, NNS AMBE, AGU, BEECROFT, DELTA, PATHFINDER, and QUORRA.

In 1996, Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla took part in the ECOMOG Operations in Liberia while he was on board NNS EKUN. After that, while on board NNS PATHFINDER, he was the Base operation officer who was responsible for coordinating anti-illegal bunkering operations as well the entire policing duties of the base.

During his service, there was a drastic reduction in illegal activities in the maritime area within the base area of operations. He has also served in different positions including Instructor, CI, and Comdt NNHS, SO 1 Survey and DD Instruments NNHO, ADCP, DD Hydro and DPR NHQ, DS/DARAS NDC, and DAudit NASS NHQ.

Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla taught geodesy, datum conversion, tidal prediction and analysis, satellite, surveying, bathymetry, and other courses during his cumulative 6 years of tours of duty in NNHS.

During his time as a Comdt, he linked the School with Teledyn Marines which enabled the NN to procure several survey equipment from the company which led to the improvement in practical training.

Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla is a senior officer who holds several honors including FSS, DSS, MSS, and GSS for his dedication and contributions to the Nigerian Navy. He is a member and fellow of different organizations including the International Earth Rotation Service, the Nigerian Hydrographic Society, the Nigerian Institute of Management, and the Occupational Safety and Health Association of the UK.

Rear Admiral Ogalla was appointed as the Chief of Naval Staff by President Bola Tinubu on June 19, 2023.
