Umar Iliya Damagum Early Life and Education
Umar Iliya Damagum was born on August 10, 1963, in Damagum, presently the Fune Local Government Area of Yobe State. He went to Damagum central Primary school and also attended the Government College, Maiduguri, where he obtained his SSCE.
Umar Iliya Damagum went to the University of Maiduguri, where he obtained a bachelor of arts education. He also holds a post-graduate diploma in management and later studied business administration at the master’s level at the same university.
Umar Iliya Damagum Career
Umar Iliya Damagum started his career when he served as the Head of Banking Operations at Allied Bank Plc. He was a board member of Yobe State investment and also a board member of Yobe State Housing Corporation.
From 1995 -2004, he was the Director of First services Nigeria Ltd and the Managing Director and Chairman of Family Investment Nigeria Ltd. Later he became a Nigerian Shippers Council member.
Umar Iliya Damagum was the former Nigerian Ambassador to Romania and he also served as the Financial Secretary of PDP in Yobe State from 1998 – 2000. He has also served as the PDP National Reconciliation Committee secretary in 2013.
On March 28, 2023, he was announced as the acting national chairman of the PDP following the suspension of Iyorcha Ayu.
