According to the Chairman of the state electoral panel and the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa state, Mr. Lawrence Euhrudjakpo stated that he defeated four other aspirants namely Hon. Mohammed Sani Kutigi, Hon. Sidi Gulu, and Engr. Absullahi Isah Jankara and Barr. Abdulrahman Gimba in the primaries which took place at the party secretariat in Minna.
In the 2023 Niger State Gubernatorial election held on March 18, 2023, Liman Kantigi lost to the All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate the governorship election. He came out in second position with 387,476 votes while Mr. Bago of All Progressive Congress (APC) won with 469,896 votes.
