Babatunde Irukera  Early Life and Education

Babatunde Irukera was born on September 4, 1968, in Kaduna State, Nigeria. He had his early education where he grew up with his parents before he proceeded to Obafemi Awolowo University where he obtained his Bachelor of Laws. Thereafter, he went to the Nigerian Law School in Lagos where he obtained his certificate.

Babatunde Irukera relocated to the United States and he went to the University of Washington School of Law where he obtained his Master of Law degree.

Babatunde Irukera  Career

Babatunde Irukera has over 25 years of experience from handling a considerable number of interesting and challenging legal responsibilities ranging from human rights violations cases to developing a framework for market-based legislation. He began his career as an In-House Counselor at RIMS Merchant Bank before he became the Legal Adviser at Associated Properties and Trust PLC. In 1996, after relocating to the United States, he became a partner at Thomas & Irukera & Counselor LLC.

In 2006, Babatunde Irukera moved back to Nigeria and became the Managing Partner at Simmonscooper Partners. Later on, he was appointed as the Director General of the Consumer Protection Council (CPC) by former President Muhammadu Buhari in 2017.

In 2019, Babatunde Irukera was appointed as the executive vice chairman and CEO of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC). However, he was sacked by President Bola Tinubu from the position as the executive vice chairman and CEO of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) on January 8, 2024.
