Timipre Sylva Early Life and Education

Timipre Marlin Sylva was born on July 7th, 1964 in Bayelsa State, Nigeria. He completed his early education in Bayelsa and Lagos. He went to the University of Port Harcourt where he obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Linguistics. He also holds a Docter in International Relations (Honoris causa) from the University of Business Innovation and Sustainability.

Timipre Sylva also holds a second Doctorate in Public Administration from the African Institute of Public Administration. 

Timipre Sylva Career

Timipre Sylva began his political career in 1992 when he was elected to the House of Assembly representing Brass constituency in old Rivers State. He was later appointed as the Special Assistant to the Minister of State for Petrolatum under the auspices of Dr Edmund Daukoru in 2004.

In 2006, Timipre Sylva resigned from that position to join the PDP gubernatorial primaries in Bayelsa State in which he was placed second behind Dr. Goodluck Jonathan. He contested as a candidate of the People’s Democratic Party and won the 2007 Bayelsa State Gubernatorial election. Even though there was a court case and the election was nullified, he still won the new election that was held on May 24, 2008.

In 2019, President Buhari appointed Timipre Sylva as the Nigerian Cabinet Minister of State for Petroleum Resources.
