Betta Chimaobim Edu was born on the 27th of October 1986 and she is a naïve of the Abi local government area in Cross River state. She completed her early education at the Federal Government Girl College, Calabar before she proceeded to the University of Calabar where she earned her degree in medicine.

Betta Edu went to the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine where she obtained her PGD in Public Health for Developing Countries. She also has a master’s degree in Public Health for Developing Countries from the same university and holds a Doctor of Public Health from Texila American University.

Betta Edu Career

Betta Edu began her career as a politician when she was appointed by the Executive Governor of Cross River State as the Special Adviser on Community and Primary Healthcare in 2015. During the Covid pandemic, she was the chairman of the Cross River State COVID-19 Taskforce.

In 2020, Betta Edu became the National Chairman of the Nigeria Health Commissioners Forum. She is a member of the African Institute of Public Health Professionals and the Royal School of Health. In 2022, she resigned as the Cross River state commissioner for Health and became the youngest national woman leader of the All Progressives Congress.

In the 2023 Nigerian Presidential election campaign, Betta Edu promised Nigerian women of 35 percent affirmative action from President Bola Tinubu. In 2023, all 36 state Women Leaders of the All Progressive Congress (APC) passed a vote of confidence on Betta Edu.
