Stockton Rush Early Life and Education

Stockton Rush was born on the 31st of March 1962 in San Francisco, California, United States. He is the last born of five kids and he completed his early education where he grew up with his parent.

At the age of 12, Stockton Rush started scuba diving and he earned a commercial pilot license at 18 years. He has always wanted to become an astronaut since childhood and when he was 19 years old, he obtained a DC-8 Type/Captain rating at the United Airlines Jet Training Institute.

Stockton Rush attended Phillips Exeter Academy and also went to Princeton University in aerospace engineering where he obtained a degree. He also holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of California.

Stockton Rush Career

Stockton Rush began his career as a flight-test engineer for the F-15 Eagle jet at McDonnell Douglas. After earning his MBA, he became a venture capitalist at the San Francisco firm Peregrine Partners.

In 1989, Stockton rush located to the Pacific Northwest to run a Remote-Control Technology company based in Kirkland, Washington. Since childhood, he has always had an interest in space travel and aviation but his interest shifted toward deep-sea exploration when he became an adult.

Stockton Rush wanted to purchase a submarine but he quickly discovered that only less than 100 individuals privately owned a submarine worldwide. As he could not purchase a submarine, he went on to construct s miniature submersible using the blueprints given to him by a retired U.S. Navy Submarine commander.

In 2009, Stockton Rush and Guillermo Sohnlein founded OceanGate after the conclusion of a marketing study that there was sufficient demand for underwater ocean tourism.

Stockton Rush has led a team of researchers and scientists to observe the red sea urchin and the habitat of the sand lance. He also went to the wreck of the Titanic with four others.

Stockton Rush piloted a submersible owned and designed by OceanGate to view the Titanic wreckage but unfortunately, the submersible lost contact with the surface ship MV Polar Prince which triggered an immediate search and rescue on June 18, 2023.

On June 22, 2023, the United States Coast confirmed that Stockton Rush and four others on Board the Submersible had perished.
