Abbas Lawal Balarabe was born on February 5th, 1958 in Kaduna State. He began his early education at Kofar Kuyambana Primary School and completed it at Zaria Barewa College before he proceeded to Katsina College of Art, Science, and Technology.

Abbas Balarabe went to Ahmadu Bello University where he obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Political Science. He also holds a Master’s degree in Political Science from the same University.

Abbas Balarabe began his career as a teacher at Rumoula School of Basic Studies in Port Harcourt during his NYSC service year. He later joined Zaria College of Advanced Studies as a lecturer before he became the Principal Management Development Officer at the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON).

Abbas Balarabe worked as the Principal Manager at the National Electric Power Authority (NEPA) for years before he was appointed as the Special Assistant to the Federal Minister of Education in Abuja. He later served as the Special Assistant to the Minister of State at the Ministry of Defense.

From 2003 to 2007, Abbas Balarabe served as the Special Assistant to the President in the Federal Capital Territory and also as the Chief of Staff to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory. He later ventured into real estate where he became the Managing Director of Rightedge Property Nigeria Limited till date. He is also involved in agriculture activities including poultry, livestock, and crop cultivation across Zaria.

Abbas Balarabe has served as Secretary to the State Government of Kaduna under the administration of His Excellency Nasir El-rufai. He has also held several positions in various organizations and committees.

On October 3, 2023, Abbas Balarabe and two other candidate names were added to ministerial nominees and sent to the Nigerian Senate for confirmation by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. During his screening with the Senate, he fainted on the floor.
