Chief Akintola Williams was born on August 9, 1919, in Lagos state, Nigeria. He began his early education at Olowogbowo Methodist Primary School, Lagos before completing at CMS Grammar School, Lagos.
Akintola William attended Yaba Higher College on a UAC scholarship where he earned a diploma in Commerce. He also holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of London. He also went further to develop himself and become a chartered accountant in England.
Akintola Williams Career
Akintola Williams began his career as an assessment officer with Inland Revenue after he returned to Nigeria. He later left the Civil service and founded his own company, Akintola Williams & Co. in Lagos. His company was the first indigenous chartered accounting firm in Africa.
During that time, the accountancy business was mainly controlled by five large foreign firms but there were a few small local firms. He gained business from several indigenous companies including Nnamdi Azikiwe West African Pilot, Fawehinmi Furniture, Ojukwu Transport, and K.O. Mbafiwe African Insurance Company. Over the years, his company grew having branches all over Africa with 19 partners and more than 535 staff.
Akintola Williams served as a board member and major shareholder in several companies until he retired in 1983. Later, his company merged with two other accounting firms to create Akintola Willams Deloitte popularly known as Deloitte & Touche.
