Hyacinth Lormem Alia was born on May 14 1966 and he completed his elementary education at Agidi, in Mbatiav Gboko local government of Benue state. He attended St James Minor seminary, where he obtained his General Certificate of Education.
Hyacinth Alia later obtained a Diploma in Religious Studies and furthered his education and graduated with a Bachelor of Art in Sacred Theology at an Affiliate of Urbaniana University. He also holds a Master of Arts Degree in Religious Education and proceed to Duquesne University in the USA for another Master of Arts Degree in Biomedical Ethics. The following year after completing the master’s program, he went on to acquire his Doctorate Degree in the same course and at the same University.

Hyacinth Alia started his career as a priest who is blessed with the gift of healing. He has worked in many places both at home and abroad and has gained the essential experience that has properly trained him to serve humanity.
When he was overseas, Hyacinth Alia served as the Director of Pastoral Services,
Catholic Health Services, North Campus Lauderdale Lakes, Florida USA. During which he led and oversaw five full-time contract Chaplains, and provided annual development of departmental goals and budget. As well as coordinated Ethics Advisory Committee, assessed and planned pastoral services and programs as well as providing short- and long-term counseling services.
Additionally, he served as Chaplain at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and St Joseph Mercy Health System Ann Arbor, United States. He was also the Coordinator, Supervisor, and Chaplain at Jamaica Hospital and Medical Queens.
During which he recruited, coordinated, and supervised staff of the departments as well as organized, planned, and conducted spiritual services as well as participated in interdisciplinary hospital committees.
While in Nigeria, Hyacinth Iormem Alia has served in different positions such as the Parochial vicar at St John’s Parish Gboko. As well as the Parish Priest at St Jude’s Parish Koti-Yough and then at Christ the King Parish, Ado Ekilio, and also at St Thomas Parish Anum, Makurdi. He also served as the project director at the proposed Catholic University Ankaa, Vandekiya local government, Benue state.
Furthermore, Hyacinth Alia has undergone professional training courses and is a member of such bodies with certifications including:
- He is a member of the National Association of Catholic Chaplains.
- Catholic Health Services System Wide Ethics (Committee and Member Broward Ethics Committee)
- he has completed four units of Clinical Pastoral Psychological Education and Development in Small Communities and Health Education and Communication: bringing HIV/AIDS Education to Benue State Nigeria.
- He has also presented papers on several topics such as Cultural Diversity and Sensitivity; Mercy Hospital Physicians’ Reaction to Ethics Consults as well as In Harm’s Way: Suicide and its impact on our Families.
Hyacinth Alia declared his intention of running for the governor seat in Benue state in the 2023 governorship election. Although his intention was good, he was suspended as a priest by the mother catholic church.
However, he contested and won the 2023 Benue state gubernatorial election under the All Progressive Congress.
