Benard Sanders commonly known as Bernie Sanders was born on September 8, 1941, in New York City, U.S. he was born into a Jewish family and raised in the Brooklyn borough of New York City. He went to elementary school at P.S. 197, where he won a borough championship on the basketball team. In the afternoon, he attended Hebrew school and celebrated his Bar mitzvah.

Bernie Sanders went to James Madison High School, where he was the captain of the track team and he took third place in the New York City indoor one-mile race. He went to Brooklyn College before graduating from the University of Chicago, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science.

During his time in school, he was a protest organizer for the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE) and the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC). Despite he lost his first election for the student body presidency, he became active in his school fundraising activities for Korean orphans.

Bernie Sanders began his career when he returned to New York City, where he worked various jobs including as a psychiatric aide, carpenter and Head start teacher.

In 1968, after settling in Vermont he ran unsuccessful third-party political campaigns in the early to mid-1970s. he began his electoral political career as a member of the Liberty Union Party, a national umbrella party for various socialist-oriented state parties.

In 1972, he ran as the Liberty Union candidate for governor of Vermont as a candidate in the special election for U.S. senator and the general election but he came out in the third position. He later worked as a writer and as the director of the nonprofit American People’s Historical Society (APHS) after he resigned from the Liberty Union Party.

In 1981, he was elected Mayor of Burlington as an independent and was reelected three times. Bernie Sanders contested and won the U.S. House of Representatives election in 1990, representing Vermont’s at-large congressional district.

In 2006, he was elected to the U.S. Senate after he has served for 16 years as the U.S. representative. He was the first non-Republican elected to the seat in 152 years. he held the position of U.S. senator from 2006 till date and he chaired the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee from 2013 to 2015.

In 2023, he became the senior senator and dean of the Vermont congressional delegation and the chair of the Senate Health, Education, Labour and Committee.

In 2016 and 2020, Bernie Sander was a major candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination. Even though he didn’t win, his campaign generated significant grassroots enthusiasm and funding from small-dollar donors, leading him to victory against eventual nominee Hillary Clinton in 23 primaries and caucuses before conceding in July. In 2020, Bernie Sander’s strong force in the primary and caucuses made him the front-runner in historically large fields of Democratic candidates.
