Donaldson Oladipo Diya was born on April 3 1944 in Ogun state and he died on March 26, 2023. He was a Nigerian general and lawyer who served as Chief of General Staff under the military head of state General Sani Abacha from 1994 until his arrest for treason in 1997.

Oladipo Diya Early Life and Education
Donaldson Oladipo Diya was born on April 3 1944 in Ogun state. He attended Methodist Primary School and the Odogbolu Grammar School. He later went to the Nigerian defense Academy, Kaduna. While he was serving in the military, he went to studied Law at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he earned an LLB degree. And then at the Nigeria Law School, where he was called to the Bar as a Solicitor and Advocate of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
Oladipo Diya Career
Oladipo Diya started his career when he joined the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna, and fought during the Nigerian Civil war. Between 1980 -1981, he went to the US Army School of Infantry, the Command and Staff College, Jaji. Before
Oladipo Diya was appointed Military Governor of Ogun State from 1984 to 1985, he was Commander 31, Airborne Brigade. In 1985, he was promoted to General Officer Commanding 82 Division, Nigeria Army.
He was appointed Chief of Defense Staff when he was a commandant at National War College. He was also the vice Chairman of the Provisional Ruling Council in 1994 and he was the de facto Vice President of Nigeria during the Sani Abacha military junta until he was arrested for treason in 1997.

Oladipo Diya was married to two women. He lost his second wife Deborah Folashade Diya a few days before her 65th birthday on 18 May 2020. It was also reported that his first wife died from COVID-19 complications.
