Oby Ezekwesili Early Life and Education
Obiageli Oby Ezekwesili popularly called ‘Madam Due Process’ was born on April 28, 1963, in Lagos State but she hails from Anambra State. She attended African One Primary School, Ajegunle, and proceed to United Christian College, for her secondary education.
She then proceeded to the University of Nigeria, Nsukka where she obtained her bachelor’s degree and also holds a Master’s degree in International Law and Diplomacy from the University of Lagos.
Ezekwesili holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Harvard University. She trained with Deloitte and Touche film and qualified as a chartered accountant.
Oby Ezekwesili Career
Oby Ezekwesili started her career by working with Deloitte & Touche Akintola Williams while she was at Harvard. She worked as the Director of the Harvard-Nigeria Economic Strategy Project at the center for international Development, where she collaborates with professor Jeffrey Sachs.
Ezekwesili was the first person to hold the position of Head of the Budget Monitoring and Price Intelligence unit, known as the Due Process Unit when president Olusegun Obasanjo was in power.
From 2004 – 2007, she was the Chairwoman of the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative and also held the position of Minister of Solid Mineral in 2005. Due to her outstanding performance and her contribution to making Nigeria great, she was appointed the position of Federal Minister of Education, where she made numerous contributions.
Furthermore, she was appointed the position of Vice President of the World Bank for the Africa Region in 2007 by Paul Wolfowitz, who was the President of the World Bank at the time.
In the 2019 presidential election, Oby Ezekwesili was one of the candidates under the banner of the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria. Although during her campaign she promised to eradicate poverty from Nigerians, she later decided not to run for the position again.
