Ibrahim Mantu Early Life and Education

Ibrahim Mantu was born on February 16, 1947, in Chanso village, Gindiri District in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State. He attended his primary education at Gindiri Demonstration Primary School, where he obtained his School Leaving certificate.

Although he did not attend any secondary school, he studied on his own to obtain O’ level GCE. He later proceeded to Washington International University where he obtained B.A. (Hons) degree in Political science.

He also holds an Honorary doctorate degree from the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, and other honors.

Ibrahim Mantu Career

Before Ibrahim Mantu started his political career, he worked with the Public Works Department (PWD) Jos, as a store’s Requisition Clerk from 1962-1963. Then he proceeded to the Gindiri Teachers College in 1964. He later joined the Nigerian Tobacco Company Zaria as a Quality Checker in 1968.

Ibrahim Mantu made his name known in politics in 1978, he contested and was elected Deputy State Chairman of NPN in Plateau State in 1980. And later he was elected senator representing Plateau Central Senatorial District under the canopy of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP.

He was appointed as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Information and also the Deputy Senate President. He also held several positions during his time in politics.
